Cosy on Cooks is the quintessential Kiwi getaway — relaxed, retro and full of old-school holiday charm. Located on the lower floor it is only a 5-minute walk to the sandy shores of Cooks Beach, it’s the perfect spot to slow down, switch off and soak up the simple pleasures of summer.
The unit sleeps up to 6 guests. The main bedroom has a queen bed with direct access to the patio, while the second bedroom features four single beds — ideal for kids, cousins or friends. The bathroom includes a shower over a small bath, and a washing machine and washing line make longer stays effortless.
The living space is bright and cosy with comfortable seating, a TV and air-conditioning to keep you comfortable year-round. The kitchen and dining area seat six and are well-equipped with everything you need, including a fridge-freezer plus an additional freezer — perfect for extra food, ice or the day’s catch.
Step through from the lounge to the covered patio, complete with BBQ and outdoor dining for easy alfresco evenings. There’s plenty of space for car and boat parking, with the boat ramp just a 5-minute drive away.
If you’re not cooking, stroll out for local bites or grab classic fish and chips and enjoy them by the sea — it doesn’t get much more Kiwi than that.
There is no WiFi, but with beaches, walks, fishing, swimming and exploring at your doorstep, you won’t even miss it.

Cooks Beach is a popular holiday spot not too far from Whitianga with a stunning white sandy beach and sparkling blue water it’s perfect for a morning stroll and swimming. The beach is not patrolled by Surf Lifesavers so always watch the conditions. With Shakespeare Cliff to the west and sheltered Purangi Estuary to the east. Take a walk up Shakespeare Cliff the views are some of the most beautiful you will see. You can also walk down to the beautiful Lonely Bay with its large limestone boulders and white sands, it’s a photographer’s dream. Cooks Beach itself is perfect for a morning stroll and swimming. You can launch the boat from the Estuary end of the beach, just watch the tides. Cooks Beach has a convenience store and some great eateries. And of course, on the way to Cooks Beach, there are 2 wineries to check out!
Not too far away is Ferry Landing which has Australasia’s oldest stone wall wharf built in 1837, from there you can catch the passenger ferry to Whitianga.
You are also a short drive away from Hahei where when conditions allow, you can walk the track to the world-renowned Cathedral Cove, the walk takes about 40-45 minutes. If you’re not up to the walk you can catch the Water Taxi from Hahei Beach. Also not too far away is Hot Water Beach, where at low tide you can dig a hole and sit in your own little hot pool. Spades can be hired from the local shop.
Cooks Beach is a hidden gem and not to be missed on your Coromandel experience!
