Your holiday world:
Normally a sleepy town, Whiritoa has only a couple of hundred permanent residents.
Over summer bach owners and holidaymakers head here to enjoy the peace.
It is located about 2 hours from Auckland and in between Waihi and Whangamata.
There is a convenience store if you need to stock up and there is a library if you need to get some summer reading done!
Whiritoa Beach is a surf beach and the surf lifeguards patrol during the summer and of course you must swim between the flags. At the north end of the beach is a lagoon which is very safe for swimming.
If you keep walking past the lagoon there is a short walk to Waimama Bay which has gorgeous white sand and crystal clear waters. Along the beach are New Zealand’s Christmas trees the Pohutukawa, which in summer bursts with red flowers. This area is a photographer’s dream. Whiritoa is the place to be if you want a chill vibe, a great place to unwind.
