Your holiday world:
Pauanui is a much-loved holiday spot on the east coast of the Coromandel, about two hours’ drive from both Auckland and Hamilton. Home to around 1,000 locals, it comes alive in summer with over 15,000 visitors enjoying its golden beaches and relaxed vibe.
Whether you’re into fishing, hiking, surfing, or simply stretching out on the sand, Pauanui has it all. Active explorers can hike up Mt Pauanui for sweeping coastal views, or wander the scenic track around its base. A boardwalk and cycleway also link Pauanui to Tairua—perfect for a leisurely ride or walk with a rewarding ice cream stop at the end.
Families are spoiled for choice with a skatepark, playground, and the nearby Puketui watering hole, a local favourite for cooling off on hot summer days. Golfers can choose from three courses: two fun 9-hole options in town, or a full 18-hole course just a short drive away. And despite its small size, Pauanui offers cafes, restaurants, bars, and even a handy supermarket for all your holiday essentials.
