Your holiday world:
Tairua is about 2 hours from Auckland, Tauranga or Hamilton, and in summer it’s a bustling little town but the rest of the year it’s very laid-back. If you enjoy walking or hiking, there are many trails you can do depending on your ability. A walk up Mt Paku will provide some stunning views and is well worth the walk. Take a day trip to Whangamata or Whitianga or just stay around town. There is a fantastic surf beach. If you enjoy a spot of fishing you could throw in your surf caster or just grab a surfboard and enjoy the water. If you prefer a slower pace you could wander through town and check out the eclectic mix of shops. If you are lucky enough to be here on the first of the month you could meander around the markets. For any golfers out there Tairua has an 18-hole golf course with a clubhouse, bowling green and a restaurant. Tairua also has public tennis courts. These are free to use, just bring along your own gear. Next door is an exercise area and a basketball court so there is plenty to do for those active relaxers. If you prefer a slower-paced holiday then a day at the beach cannot be beaten.
